Dinner Made Easy is a family kosher dinner-planning app. This page explains what information the app handles and how.

Where your household data lives

By default, everything you enter — your household's preferences, pantry inventory, weekly plan, and shopping list — is stored only on your own device, in your browser's local storage. We don't collect it, see it, or store it on our servers unless you turn on Family Account sync (below).

Family Account sync (optional)

If you choose to create or join a household using a household code, your plan, pantry list, shopping list, and preferences are stored in the cloud (via Netlify Blobs) so other devices with the same code can see and edit them. This is entirely optional and off by default.

A household code works like a private link: anyone who has the code can read and write that household's data. There is no separate login or password for this. Don't share your code outside your family.

Photos never sync. Only the structured result of scanning a photo (item name, quantity, confidence) is shared — the photo itself stays on the device that took it.

Pantry and receipt photo scanning

When you scan a pantry, fridge, freezer, or receipt photo, that image is sent to OpenAI's API to identify the items in it. The image is used only to generate that result and is handled under OpenAI's API data usage policy, which does not use API data to train their models by default. Photos are not stored on our servers.

Store search

If you search for nearby kosher stores, your general location is sent to Google's Places API to find and sort results. This follows Google's privacy policy. We also maintain a small manually-curated list of known kosher stores that doesn't require this lookup. Your location is not stored or linked to your identity.

Community recipes and signing in

Browsing the Community recipes section never requires an account. If you choose to share a recipe, video, or comment, you'll sign in with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. This gives us your name and email address, which is stored so we can attribute content you share and so you can sign back in later. We never see or store your Apple or Google password.

Every recipe submitted to the community is automatically reviewed by AI before publishing, to check it against kosher standards and relabel dairy ingredients as Cholov Yisroel - this review only looks at the recipe text you submit (title, ingredients, steps), not any personal information.

What we don't do

Children's information

This app is designed for family use and may be used by children under a parent's guidance (for example, to help with shopping or cooking). We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Signing in to share a community recipe is intended for a parent or guardian in the household, not a child.

Your control over your data

You can review, edit, or delete anything you've entered at any time within the app. Deleting the app or clearing your browser's site data removes everything stored locally. Leaving a Family Account household stops that device from syncing, though the data remains for other household members until they remove it. If you'd like your community sign-in account or anything you've submitted removed entirely, email us and we'll take care of it.

This app is a free family project, not a commercial product. There are no paid tiers, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.
